AAF Mosaic Awards
The AAF’s Mosaic Awards recognize companies, agencies and individuals whose commitment to diversity and inclusion is evident through their creative work and organization-wide initiatives.
Past recipients have embraced advanced marketing techniques and business practices and have developed diversity programs that not only help improve the bottom line, but also secure a relevant role in a continuously evolving corporate environment.
Mosaic Media Image Awards
Mosaic Media Image Award for Realism
The Realism category will recognize documentary or reality television content. The winner of this category will feature holistic stories that reflect today’s multi-dimensional society.
Mosaic Media Image Award for Advocacy: Content
The Advocacy category will be awarded to short-form content that addresses issues experienced by underrepresented multicultural communities and gives voice to groups that have been stereotyped or ignored in media and by society, increasing viewer’s perceptions and understanding of multicultural communities.
Mosaic Media Image Award for Advocacy: Individual or Company
This award will be given to a media professional or company who, through their work, has addressed issues and given voice to groups that have been stereotyped, ignored or excluded in media. This individual or organization has helped increase viewer’s perceptions and understanding of multicultural communities and nurtured up and coming multicultural media professionals.
Mosaic Media Image Award for Innovation in Storytelling
The Innovation in Storytelling award will recognize television and film content that presents storylines that extend beyond stereotypical portrayals and depict multicultural communities and individuals as the complex, multifaceted and dynamic groups they are. Single episodes of a series may also be considered.
The Mosaic Media Maven award recognizes a professional who has pioneered inclusion in the media space, defying stereotypes and ushering in new images of today’s dynamic, adaptable, varied and successful multicultural groups. The Media Maven has helped move his/her organization to telling new stories that reflect our country’s 21st century audience. This individual has demonstrated unwavering belief in inclusion through mentorship, leadership and support of D&I by implementing cutting edge strategies and approaches for media diversity issues, among other acts.
Alternative Media Form
The Alternative Media category recognizes non-traditional media communication in the form of art, music/audio, experiential or any other forms that differ from traditional media. This entry celebrates diverse cultures and acts as a tool of communication, understanding, acceptance, while bringing audiences of different backgrounds together.
Multicultural Ad Campaign
This category recognizes a series of three (3) or more related campaign media mix (must include both traditional media and digital media) that demonstrates understanding and sensitivity of targeted ethnic audiences and their buying practices and behaviors. This can include any of the listed mediums in the campaign: Broadcast, online, radio, print, mobile, streaming, outdoor and apps ads. Sample Submission
Student Multicultural Ad Campaign
This student-only category recognizes a series of two (2) or more related campaign media mix that demonstrates the student’s understanding and sensitivity of targeted ethnic audiences and their buying practices and behaviors. This can include any of the listed mediums in the campaign: Broadcast, online, radio, print, mobile, streaming, outdoor and apps ads. Applicants must be enrolled full- or part-time in an accredited U.S. educational institution. Student interns are eligible to enter. Submit work developed specifically for this competition or from previous projects or student contests (work must be created while the entrant is a student not employed in the advertising industry between January 2015-December 2015). Travel and overnight accommodations for one individual will be covered for the selected winner of the student category.
Multicultural Digital Campaign
Recognizes campaigns that are executed primarily or exclusively online or through interactive marketing. The winner of this category utilized interactive media targeted toward multicultural markets. This includes digital media, mobile, interactive advertising and video game production advertising. Sample Submission
Recognizes companies that demonstrate a strong effort to recruit, retain and promote persons from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds and also develop programs that enhance employee sensitivity, inclusion and understanding of the various ethnicities and cultures within the corporate environment. Multicultural Student Programs
Recognizes companies and organizations for their development, execution and management of programs designed to increase student diversity, inclusion and awareness of various career opportunities within the advertising industry. Sample Submission
Multicultural Traditional Media Usage
Recognizes the targeting and usage of any traditional media (any combination of broadcast, print or radio) to convey ad campaigns in culture/in-language specifically to multiethnic markets. Media outlets are defined as culturally specific publications and stations targeted to primarily serve a multicultural audience. Sample Submission
Recognizes companies and organizations that have made a concerted effort to develop and implement programs to increase their partnerships with minority vendors. Sample Submission
The Mosaic Champion Award will recognize a professional or organization that has been continuously supportive of diversity and inclusion within the industry. This individual or organization has demonstrated unwavering belief in this cause through mentorship; leadership and support of D&I program initiatives and by implementing cutting edge strategies and approaches for addressing diversity issues, among other acts.
Multicultural Talent in Advertising
Recognizes companies that demonstrate a strong effort to use multiethnic talent in their advertising campaigns. The winner of this category uses diverse talent—actors, models, musicians, artists, production teams and writers to promote and market services, goods and products. Sample Submission
